Child-led Play Therapy

During these sessions, your child will have the opportunity to talk about any feelings that are coming up for them and also be able to play their way through their “problems”. Often children find it easier to express what they are feeling through play which then gives them the ability to communicate how they are feeling and also what they need. Play and creating gives them the chance to feel safe enough to feel the big feelings, name them and move through them with love, acceptance and connection. The idea of "joining” into their world also allows them to feel safe enough in the world to communicate and connect with others, something that isn’t always easy for sensitive children who are in tune with the energies around them. Play is a beautiful way for them to feel safe enough in their environment, activate their parasympathetic nervous system to heal, taking them from a state of "fight or flight" to "stay and play".

Who might benefit from Play Therapy? 

What this might “appear” as, “sound/look like” or be labeled as:

-Your child may have learning difficulties, low self-esteem or has a hard time expressing their emotions, naming them and feeling happy within themselves. 

-Your child is screaming, crying and "throwing tantrums". Your child has difficulty communicating what is going on for them.  Your child's "behaviour" may seem "attention-seeking, rude, or disruptive. In truth, your child is simply asking for what he/she needs the only way he/she knows how. 

-Your child is having huge meltdowns, tantrums and/or refuses to go to school and does not want to be there.

-Your child has a hard time listening when others are speaking, making eye contact or communicating using words.

-Your child may have a difficult time being in noisy, bright or "overstimulating" environments.

-Your child may find it difficult connecting with others, joining in activities with other people and making/keeping friendships. 

-Your child has a hard time "staying grounded", being "here", present and engaging with others.

-Your child may appear to just "check out" completely, space out or be unable to pay attention in the moment. 

-Your child gets super exited and can't "calm down" or they may appear as moody, angry, often sad/sleepy and unable to express what he/she is feeling. Your child may experience emotions as "REALLY BIG!" and can sometimes go from one extreme to another...something that is hard for you to understand and you are not always sure how to best support them.

-Your child may be “labeled with” or diagnosed with Autism, Depression, Anxiety, ADD/ADHD or is very hyperactive.

-Your child  experiences difficulty self-regulating and can sometimes be poorly labeled as the “behaviour kid”.

-You have a child or children with exceptionalities or are labeled as having “special needs”.

 

-Your child has been diagnosed with a brain injury or some type of invisible disability or mysterious illness that nobody can seem to understand and aren't quite sure how to support.

-Your child is seen as "sick" and is constantly going from appointment to appointment or various "specialists" to seek answers and support. (If this is you, feel free to connect and we can talk more about this and if play therapy might be a more supportive approach so that the focus is not always on the "problem" or "sickness" to be healed/fixed but instead the child has a space to heal while being seen for the beautiful, whole and healthy person they are and all that is possible for them!)

 

-Your child is sensitive and empathic. These children are often very in tune with the energies around them and are often sick or diagnosed with other health challenges (may experience chronic inflammatory symptoms) due to their sensitivity and inability to create boundaries around their energy (what's theirs/what's not). 

-Your child is highly spiritual, connects often to Higher realms and finds it hard to “get grounded”. Your child may find it "safer" up there than down here and could use some support in enjoying life on Earth, and feeling like they are part of this world (*cue the Little Mermaid Song*)

-Your child may be identified as a “rainbow child”, “indigo child” or “crystal child”.

What may be going on for your child?

-Your child may experience the world as "too much/too loud" and are not able to feel safe in the environment. Their senses are heightened and something that feels "normal" for you may cause them pain. Your child may have difficulty communicating this or may try to tell you in ways that may not be "I am hurting right now and I could use some help."

-Sometimes tantrums or “behaviours” are your child’s way of asking for love in a way that may not be the most loving or simply are asking for what he/she needs because his/her needs are not currently being met. (This is where support on how to better communicate this will help both you and your child express and receive what you want/need while having the communication skills and tools to do so with more ease!)

-Your Child may feel unsafe in the world, in their body or in their environment - they may just be feeling A LOT and need a safe space to feel their way through.

 

-Your Child may be going through a transition and finds this hard. Your child may have a lot of "big feelings" that it feels overwhelming and they could use a safe space to talk about how they feel and know they are not alone.

-Your Child may be highly sensitive, empathic and feeling other people’s emotions and experiences as their own.

-Your Child may have difficulty feeling grounded and could be supported through various tools and techniques to learn how to stay grounded in the 3D world while integrating their spiritual connection to the higher realms.

"Amanda spent time connecting and bonding with our son to figure out the approach that would work best for him. She tailors her approach to each child, family and their needs. 

 

Using her intuition and connection with my son, Amanda used several modalities during these sessions including neuroplasticity, intuitive energy healing, yoga, family meditations and even brought in crystals which he was very drawn to.

One of the biggest changes for my son was that after working together, he has transitioned back to school after being homeschooled for 2 years. When he re-entered back to school, he was able to transition without the same issues that he faced initially. He was able to cope better, sensory overload stimuli had decreased. Now in 2019, Danyal is attending school for extended periods of time where he is participating, integrating, and spending time with others.”
